On rainy days, we build forts. Fabulous forts, with a bed for Lydia and a pint-sized library. There’s room for Sarah’s Bumbo seat and a stash of board games and art supplies. We bring the laptop in with us and watch movies. In other words, we hole up and hide out for the day.
The funny thing, though, is that every time we’ve done this – whenever I’ve looked out the window at 8 am and declared, upon seeing drizzly, depressing rain, “Fort day!” – the weather has eventually turned sunny (a rarity for February). But because we’re committed, and because our fort has everything but windows, we stay inside anyway.
We leave only to bake graham crackers (which we then bring into our fort to eat).
