I’m sure there’s a market for it somewhere

Here’s an idea: a vacuum-powered cat brush. Sort of like a hair dryer in reverse–doesn’t just brush your cat, but also disposes of the excess hair by means of an intricate, clog-free system comprised of bags and hoses and so on. Convenient, hand-held, and wildly entertaining for anyone else who happens to be in the room while you actually try and use this contraption on your cat.
